How do I stop it?

I bathe my puppy twice a week with a good quality Pet Shampoo and he eats good quality organic met and biscuits for puppies but he smells really ‘doggy’ all the time and his cage blankets are washed every other day. His breath does not smell but his surrounding bed does and its startng to smell the house out and making me feel sick.
Just to add – he is completely toilet trained and has never had any accidents. He is 5 months old now.
I wash him twice a week because he gets filthy in the park where he rolls about in everything honest
And just for you KATEY, he is taken care of very well indeed and we were very well prepared for him. I don’t expect him to smell like a rose and wouoldn’t want him to either for your information so don’t be a rude girl now, toddle along!!

I used to be in dog grooming and one problem you may have is the use of “dog” shampoo. Human shampoo, the cheap supermarket own brand, will give your dog a much better clean as long as it is hyper-allogenic. Dog Shampoo has chemicals in it that are not necessary and even vet shampoo’s are a waste of time. Believe it or not most good grooming parlours use hairdressing shampoo! Anyway more to the point, instead of all this bathing you may be better off doing it every 3 weeks but you need to remove all the dead hair in the winter so I would either invest in a blaster – a powerful hairdryer to remove dead hair skin and undercoat or find a good groomer and have the dog groomed every 12 to 16 weeks. Also wet dog smell lingers forever so if you do bath the dog yourself I would recommend drying him well. Hope this helps and good luck!
